The Highstream team was brought on board to provide seasonal decorative provider, Premier Decorations with new replacement network connectivity across their warehousing and showroom in Wrexham. Instructed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Highstream team had to conduct all on-site activity efficiently and safely to comply with the necessary guidelines.

Challenge

Premier Decorations is a leading UK supplier of seasonal decorations, including Christmas, summer and Halloween. In early 2020, ahead of Christmas, their busiest time of year, Highstream supported the firm by advising on and implementing a new, fibre-optic backbone throughout the firm’s sizeable warehousing space.

Given the significant square footage of the distribution centre, the Highstream team was also tasked with installing new cabling data outlets within the office areas to upgrade legacy infrastructure and facilitate flexibility within the day-to-day operation of the warehousing team.

These works were undertaken during the COVID-19 lockdown, meaning that strict health and safety parameters had to be met, in line with Government guidelines. It was important to complete the project safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to the ongoing work of the Premier Decorations team.

Solution

All the infrastructure implemented needed to suit a large space, as the Premier Decorations distribution centre spans approximately 15 acres.

Thanks to the Highstream team’s extensive warehousing expertise, we were able to advise and help design an efficient and resilient network, allowing implementation in a phased manner, firstly consisting of a fibre-optic backbone to accommodate distances required.

Additionally, more than 150 Cat6a structured cabling outlets were installed throughout the office areas, providing reliable connectivity throughout.  New data and server racks were provided to complete the fit-out.

Naturally, all of the newly installed data cabling is of optimum quality and is guaranteed.  We fully test as part of our commissioning process, proving Premier with a full test report.

All works were undertaken in a socially distanced way, guaranteeing limited face to face contact both within and between the Highstream and the Premier Decorations teams. Our carefully planned approach and implementation meant we were able to complete the works promptly to reduce the time spent on site.

Highstream now has a positive, ongoing relationship with the management team, and will continue to provide input into future technology strategies to help facilitate effective IT solutions moving forward.
