So much choice: choosing Microsoft, Apple or Google for your business

Making the right choice between Microsoft, Apple and Google can seem an overwhelming challenge. All three are tech giants, all of which perform well and have their own particular strengths and stand-out features. Microsoft has the largest market share out of all of them, which means it tends to be more likely to be compatible with a wider range of programmes and software. Fans of Apple tend to own multiple Apple devices and enjoy the levels of integration on offer. Google is simple and intuitive, with some great features for collaborative working and it also integrates well with a range of platforms and devices.

As far as our clients are concerned, if they come to us for advice on their IT strategy, we work with them to select the products that are right for them. Regardless of the product you choose, we can offer unrivalled support plans.

All three of these product suites are highly rated for security. None of them can offer 100% security, which is why it is important to do all you can to protect your devices and your data from attack.

Choosing the best IT product for your business

Here at Highstream we have invested in becoming a Microsoft Partner, and we rate the company’s products extremely highly, particularly around security. However, we are agnostic when it comes to our clients’ choice and will happily provide IT support to Apple or Google too.

Broadly speaking, Apple tends to be a popular choice for anyone working in a creative industry, while Microsoft, in our view, offers a slightly more mature product set.

Making your selection should be dictated by your business priorities. When it comes to this important choice, start at the beginning. Consider what you are using computers for, who is using them, and most importantly, what do you need them to do on a day-to-day basis, as well as in the long term. We can work with you to plan your priorities for the long term and help you select the products that are right for you that will help you achieve your business goals.

Consistency is key to efficient IT performance

We do recommend to our clients that they avoid using a variety of products to try and keep everyone happy. People tend to want to stick to what they know, and it can be tempting to pander to personal preference. Ending up with a mixed bag of products is rarely an efficient or practical choice, with lack of compatibility or consistency between devices, and above all, having a mixture is more likely to leave you more vulnerable to cyber attack and security breaches.

Once you have selected your products, enforce their consistent use across the board. This strategic decision is key. Providing good quality training where required will soon mean that even the most resistant person will soon become familiar with the new technology, especially where they can see the benefits to the business at first-hand.

Whichever route you go down, make sure you have the IT support in place for your team so they can focus on productivity, and do not have to spend their valuable time wrestling with an IT-related issue.
